GRAND RAPIDS FILM FESTIVAL POSTER

For a long time I have found it very interesting how directors hold up their hands to frame a shot. I know it's a bit cliché, but if you have ever lived in the lower peninsula of Michigan you know how to show people where you live—you simply hold up your right hand and point. When I was challenged to come up with a poster design that says movies, Grand Rapids, MI, and film festival; I couldn't help but put all these elements together to pull off this concept. It plays off so many meanings and includes a cinematic green screen. My hope is that the audience picks up at least a few of these elements at a time in this poster, if not all of them. I was honored to be able to work on this poster alongside my friends at Spectacle Creative.

BOOK BUY-BACK POSTER

Many people buy books over the summer and are done with them. This poster calls out to those people who may not have known they could sell their used books back to Schuler Books. This poster was used online and in the store.

POTATO MOON POSTER

This is a poster for a live musical performance by local folk band Potato Moon. The poster uses monochromatic color and texture to create a surreal environment that reflects the band's name. The fonts were chosen to complement their turn of the century style.

MUSIC & COFFEE

This poster was for a youth group event that invited both students and their parents to attend. The event had a cafe and music music theme as illustrated by the visual elements in the poster. The visuals also symbolize the coming together of the two different age groups in a simple but meaningful way.

DESIGN CRITIQUE POSTER

Very simplistic but visually interesting, this poster for a design critique meeting is a call out to local designers to bring out their work for discussion. The colors represent different input from design peers that helps support and strengthen one's work.

KINGDOM: THREE PART SERIES

This visual theme supported a 3 part sermon series on the Kingdom of God. The visual theme was used on posters and projections with online application possibilities as well. Each week the color changed based on the topic.

Above is the theme with all three topics displayed together.

DATING POSTER

This is a series poster that was presented to a younger audience on a lecture series about dating. The lightning represents the excitement and danger of dating. The overlapping color of the circles and the asterisk signifies a couple making a connection on a date.

POSTER IDENTITY

This 20x30"poster was created for a youth group series focused on how students find their identity in the midst of a sea of modern culture that is dominated by social networks. The visuals help show that one person is not lost in modern society or in the vast universe but that each person is uniquely created and loved by God.

LO-FI INDIE POSTER

This poster reflects the lo-fi, lackluster sound of the musical artist justin Stover in the use of hand drawn elements and monochromatic colors.

STRING BAND POSTER

This poster used classic typography to convey the refined quality of older style music Kent Co. String Band performs.

JOHN PROULX LIVE JAZZ POSTER

The visual intention of this poster was to communicate the smooth elegance of John Proulx's contemporary jazz music.

CHAIN OF LAKES

This is a poster for the Michigan musical artist Chain of Lakes aka Kyle Rasche. I loved the name and wanted the poster to not only reflect the name but also feel of this indie artist's music.

LIVE MUSIC ON FRIDAY THE 13TH

This poster for a live musical performance by Cameron Blake was a great opportunity to use a great black and white photo  supplied by the artist. He performed on Friday the 13th hence the iconic skull and bones as visual wit.

TEXT POSTER

In recent history text has transferred primarily from paper to electronic. This poster was a visual for a discussion on this change and how older texts like scripture are still relevant in the digital information age. It also hints how new information needs to be tested over time to see how reliable it is.

MEG HUTCHINSON MUSIC POSTER

This is a poster for a live musical performance by Meg Hutchinson in support of her new album "The Living Side." Her album's photo shoot included furniture shot outdoors so to blend this I used modern lines mixed with environmental clouds and natural colors.

A SERIES ON WORSHIP

This is a poster for a 3-week sermon series that focused on three different places of faith discussed in the bible. Each icon hints at location being discussed on the correlating date.

KEVIN MAX POSTER

This is a poster for a special musical performance by Christian artist, Kevin Max, formally of DC Talk.

MOVIE POSTER

Produced by Gorilla Pictures, Camp Manna is a short film set at a Christian camp. Since the production did not include any high resolution post production photography the subject matter of the promotion materials had to be created artificially. The poster you see here was created using completely Adobe Illustrator with some imported textures to achieve the same look and feel over the entire piece.

GUILTY READS

Knowing we all have guilty pleasures—this poster relates to people's secret reads that they love but are slightly embarrassed of.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

This poster was hung at a speaking event at a bookstore that was politically charged. The poster's intent was to remind both sides of the 1st amendment's provision of the freedom of speech.
